One of my favorite things about Toffler Associates is the diversity of the work. Right now, I'm on three engagements: building a learning organization in a government intelligence agency; helping an international client to grow its business in the U.S.; and determining the long-term market outlook for a commercial defense firm.
It's incredibly stimulating to work with such varied clientele. I'm always applying best practices learned from government clients to engagements with commercial clients, and vice versa. And it's nice not to get pigeon-holed into one particular industry.
Smart, Driven and Diverse When I think about the people of Toffler Associates, a few words immediately come to mind: smart, driven and also diverse. I have an engineering background, as do a couple others here. We've also got MBAs along with veterans of business, military, science and many other realms. That's a big differentiator for us. We're always bringing in people to contribute new ideas and ways of doing things to our engagements.
Everyone here takes great pride in offering practical guidance to help our clients overcome their challenges. Some consulting firms suffer from "analysis paralysis." But at Toffler Associates, we focus on outcomes. How will the client be able to use the information we're providing? What impact will it make on their future? Soon after completing an engagement, I might come across a Wall Street Journal article about something our client has just implemented. And it's because of the recommendations we made. That's so cool.
A Lifelong Learner If you consider yourself a lifelong learner, as I do, then Toffler Associates is the place to be. Before we start a project, we ask, "Who's the smartest person in the world on this topic?" — and then we go interview him or her. As for our typical engagements, we're meeting with heads of intelligence agencies, three- and four-star generals, vice presidents, general managers. There's no better way to learn than speaking with experts like these.
I also appreciate the flat organizational structure here. It's part of why learning is so prevalent, and it helps ensure everyone enjoys a great deal of responsibility. For instance, I was leading my first project less than a year after I was hired. That shows you how much trust Toffler Associates places in its people. I can't imagine getting so much responsibility, so soon, anywhere else.
With all these great opportunities to learn, grow and take on new responsibilities, I like to think I'll be at Toffler Associates for a long time. |
